Why this classic still matters
Stoker's book is a scrapbook — its dread comes from ordinary people writing things down. It is also the reason nearly every later vampire behaves the way it does.
“There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights.”
A historical curiosity
Stoker's working notes show the count was originally to be named Count Wampyr; he found "Dracula" while reading about Wallachian history.
