From the library
How it works
A monthly mail club for readers, arranged as simply as we can manage: one classic, one envelope, one calendar month.
1
Join during the current enrollment window
Sign up before the month's cutoff and you're in for that month's edition.
2
We prepare that month's featured literary collection
Printing, stamping, assembling, sealing. Slowly, and by hand where it matters.
3
A little piece of the library arrives in your mailbox
One envelope, sealed in brass-colored wax, addressed to you.
The important part
Order by the 18th to receive that month's edition. Order after the 18th and your subscription begins with the following month's edition. There is no Month One and no ongoing plot to catch up on, so you can begin at any time.
Right now that means Dracula by Bram Stoker — the October 2026 edition. Order by October 18 to receive Dracula. Orders placed after October 18 begin with November's Jane Eyre edition. Expected mailing October 25, 2026.
The details
- One classic per calendar month
- Each month has exactly one featured public-domain classic. It is announced ahead of time and shown on the This Month page.
- Order by the 18th
- Order by the 18th to receive that month's edition. Order after the 18th and your subscription begins with the following month's edition. New members never start on the club's first-ever edition.
- Every edition is self-contained
- There's no serialized story, no part one, and nothing to catch up on. Join in any month and you're in the middle of nothing.
- Billing and renewal
- You're charged when you subscribe, and monthly memberships renew on the same date each month until canceled. Three-month, annual, and Volume I memberships are paid upfront and do not renew.
- Shipping expectations
- Envelopes are mailed around the 25th. U.S. orders typically arrive within 3–8 business days after mailing. International delivery times vary by destination and may take several weeks. Worldwide postage is included in every price.
- Cancellation timing
- To cancel a monthly membership, email theclassicalsnail@gmail.com before your renewal date and you won't be billed again; you'll still receive anything already paid for.
- Address-change deadline
- Address changes saved before the 18th apply to that month's mailing. Later changes apply to the following month.
- Lost or damaged mail
- Please contact us within 30 days of delivery for damaged mail. If an envelope appears lost, contact us once the expected delivery window for your destination has passed. Replacements are subject to remaining inventory.
- Gift subscriptions
- Gifts are paid once, run for the length purchased, and then stop. They never renew, and the recipient never enters payment details.
- We ship worldwide
- We mail to readers around the world, and postage is included in every price — no separate shipping charge at checkout. International customers may be responsible for customs duties, taxes, or import fees charged by their country.
